Avirtual private network (VPN) encrypts your internet traffic and then routes it through your VPN provider's server before you connect to a website or another online service. This helps disguise your identity and activity on the internet. VPNs can be used to bypass geographic restrictions, shield your activity on public Wi-Fi, and hide your real IP address when browsing and using software like BitTorrent.

In the years since we began as a crowdfunded project, Proton Mail and Proton VPN continue to be primarily supported by our community and developed with community input.
